O2 Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On Migration

On 1 October, O2 are making some changes to their default and high data user caps in RoW and Europe. See a comparison below of today vs 1 October.

Default cap today:

  • Spend limit per month = 33.34
  • Data limit in Europe = 230MB
  • Data limit outside Europe = 50MB

Default cap from 1st October:

  • Spending limit per month = 36
  • Data limit in Europe = 250MB
  • Data limit outside Europe = 6B

Heavy user cap today:

  • Spending limit per month = 100
  • Data limit in Europe = 690MB
  • Data limit outside Europe = 200MB

Heavy users cap from 1st October:

  • Spending limit per month = 150
  • Data limit in Europe = 1035MB
  • Data limit outside Europe = 25MB

If you travel in Europe this is not a big change. The data caps have always been in line with the price per MB, which in Europe is 14.5p/MB

However, if you roam in RoW these changes are significant. O2 have changed the allowance to represent the cost per MB which in RoW is 6/MB, therefore from 1st October you will get much less data.

Migration

If you are compatible for migration onto the Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On (data roaming proposition for RoW), you will receive a message from O2 to let you know that you’ll be auto-migrated from your September bill date, in which case you will be subject to the new data caps from 1st October.

Why am I better off on better off on the Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On?

Data in RoW when you are on standard rates costs 6/MB. O2’s Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On costs 7.50 for up to 200MB for a full 24 hours. Therefore you only need to use 2MB of data in RoW to be better off on the Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On.

Why might I not be eligible for the Worldwide 24 hour data Bolt On migration?

You may not be eligible for a number of reasons, some of which are listed below:

  1. You’re on data abroad (an incompatible tariff)
  2. You’re barred from using data abroad
  3. You opted out of the migrations O2 did earlier this year
  4. Data only tariffs are not compatible
