O2 and Microsoft Lync

O2 is committed to better working and with workplace efficiency down nearly 5% over pre-recession levels, workforce empowerment and flexibility is a key priority. Recently, O2 and Microsoft partnered up to bring you lync solutions – meaning you can work out of office and on the move with Microsoft’s Hosted Unified Communications (UC) system and the O2 network. Now, instead of having very public conversations on your mobile or rushing to get back to the office, business-owners and employees can simply IM one another – making link sharing much easier – or even just work externally as they take the train or sit down for a coffee after a client meeting.

The Hosted Lync UC solution is designed to work best for workforces of 250 to 10,000+ users and as it’s federated, you can communicate and collaborate with people outside of the organisation using Microsoft Lync, Skype or services like IBM Sametime and Cisco Unified Presence Server.

O2 thought they’d test their theories for themselves and found that flexible working was not only a cost-effective solution, but also reduced their carbon footprint, made their employees happier and built trust between employees and managers, all the while improving their overall outcome.

With employees hotdesking in the office as and when they need to, O2 now save approximately £7000 each year by eliminating desks they no longer have any use for. They save 10% year on year by reducing travel costs and employees are much happier for it, each saving an average of 1.5 hours in travel time every day, meaning they can do more both for the business and also in their personal home lives, with their families and friends. Managers who were once sceptical are now supporters of the system, seeing that it’s an outcome-based solution that improves their relationship with their workforce and still offers them seamless communication day to day.

Video and audio calls can carry over 200 people and can be recorded for anyone that can’t make the call, while documents, presentations and more can be shared via a cloud-based system that allows employees to contribute via their desktop computer, laptop, tablet, mobile, or smartphone.
