Microsoft Office 365 E5 Plan
In July this year, Microsoft announced its new Office 365 E5 plan, making PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) conferencing and PBX (Private Branch exchange) functionality available to its Skype for Business online users, among other features and services.
Microsoft also announced a preview programme in July, allowing Office 365 enterprises to enable the Skype for Business features before the service rolls out – you can read more about the Skype for Business features and registration details on Microsoft’s Office blog.
What it is:
The E5 plan will replace Microsoft’s E4 plan, consolidating Business Intelligence (BI) and Delve Analytics, enhanced e-Discovery and Data Assurance, and the following Skype for Business online functionality:
- Cloud PBX and PSTN Calling – this will add the ability to send and receive calls to and from the PSTN, allowing features like – hold, resume, forward, and call transfer. Call plans will be provided by 3rd party carriers or Microsoft direct.
- PSTN Conferencing – unlimited PSTN conferencing. A Skype for Business online meeting will continue to support up to 250 participants – E5 will allow PSTN attendees to join your conference.
- Broadcast Meetings – enables the broadcast from a Skype for Business meeting to up to 10,000 browser-based attendees. The broadcast includes integrations with Bing Pulse, a real-time audience polling and engagement system that will allow audience voting with graphical, over-time-display of results during a broadcast, and Yammer for attendee dialogue.
When is it available?
Microsoft is committed to an end of year (2015) release for US customers, then rest of world customers will follow shortly after. PBX functionality will roll out after the initial phases and will be subject to local regulations (OFCOM etc).
What will it cost?
As of yet there are is no pricing for the plan, although we would expect pricing to be on a flat rate basis as with all other Office 365 Business Plans and the Office 365 E4 Plan.
