Data Roaming and GPRS Bars

If you don’t have a data plan for your phone, you could be incurring network charges for no apparent reason and without warning. Your phone will occasionally come into contact with wireless internet services and the data used by these services, regardless of whether you allowed them access, will start costing you. £1.80 per megabyte, to be precise.

Unwanted/high data charges can be stopped, however. If you’ve found yourself on the receiving end of these costs because of unintended data usage, you can get in touch with us and we’ll give you a GPRS bar to prevent all data access to your phone.

The GPRS bar can be added and removed at any time and can be requested in bulk. It can also be incredibly useful for anyone going abroad, because while you can opt to turn data roaming off at the phone’s handset level, the phone can actually still access and receive data regardless. It will help, but it might not be the perfect solution. GPRS bars, however, are applied at the network level and will completely stop any and all data from transmitting.

Data roaming is one of the biggest revenue streams for mobile phone networks and while it can be a fantastic tool for some of us, for others – like those without data allowances – it can be a really expensive and troublesome nuisance.
