CES 2018

The world’s leading technology manufacturers unveiled their latest innovations at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week (Jan 8-12). Here we take a look at some of the best new products and hands-on reviews…

Lenovo Miix 630

Chinese tech giant Lenono had lots of new products on show but it was the Miix 630 laptop which got people’s attention with its amazing 20 hours of battery life. The Miix 630 is also one of the first machines to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset – a CPU commonly used in high-end phones.

Sony Xperia XA2

One of the biggest smartphone announcements of CES 2018 came from Sony in the form of the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra. These mid-range phones feature upgraded specs compared to previous models and impressive new full-HD screens.

LG Display Rollable OLED TV

LG showed off the world’s first large, rollable, ultra-high definition television screen. The 4K display uses OLED technology, allowing it to be more flexible than a conventional LED television. There’s no mention of when it will be available or how much it might cost but it’s pretty cool!

Vivo smartphone

Although their phones aren’t available over here, Chinese company Vivo unveiled a new smartphone with an on-screen fingerprint sensor. Apple and Samsung are said to be still testing this technology but Vivo, with the help Synaptics, have won the race to market.

Google Assistant

Google is fighting back against Amazon’s Alexa with a new and improved Assistant. It will be built-in or compatible with a wide range of 2018 products including LG TVs, Schlage smart locks, Hunter ceiling fans and the new Lenovo Smart Display, as featured in the video.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1

The new XPS 15 2-in-1 is one of the first laptops to pack Intel’s Core processor with Radeon graphics. As with other 2-in-1 laptops on the market, users can either use the device as a laptop or flip the screen over and use it as a tablet depending on their needs.
